Spring has sprung! Let’s do a quick check-in: how’s your year been? Where are you at with those January 1 resolutions? I’ll go first!
I started thsi year with a goal to meditate more, and it’s been a deeply informative practice – but it’s also led me to another, even more powerful routine: manifestation.
Culturally, we know manifestation as saying a specific goal over and over again until it comes true. Verbalizing intentions also closely aligns with affirmations, which we’ve covered as an under-appreciated beauty routine. And while both of these scratch at the truth of manifestation, it’s simultaneously so much simpler and more interesting than those definitions.
Manifestation goes beyond the purely mental to the physical, helping reshape our consciousness to better streamline our energy to shape our life to match our goals and dreams. Simply put, it’s thoughts (like meditation or affirmations) paired WITH action. If you’re interested in harnessing this power too, I’ve gathered up some of the tips and phrases that helped me refresh my life.
Five Steps To Manifestation
Clarify: I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: “Fuzzy goal equals fuzzy results.” Refine this by taking stock of your core values. The objective may be to get a new job, but dig a little deeper. Is this career shift so you can feel more creatively fulfilled? A higher salary, so you can care for yourself better? Or maybe something less time-consuming, so you can spend more time on hobbies and with loved ones. Make sure you know what you want, and then throw everything at it.
Specify: Now that you’ve defined what you’re working toward, dive into the details. Don’t go too crazy, but make sure you have distinct markers to make achieving it easier. For example, is the job change within your current industry or somewhere new? Is the bigger home a house or an apartment? Is the dream partner ambitious or more laidback?
Express: This can be the classic recitation into the mirror, included in a prayer, or any form in between. Personally, I love the Post-It note method: choosing somewhere you see everyday helps create the consistency that is integral to manifestation.
Unlearn: As unglamorous as it is, a fresh start requires letting go of things that no longer serve you. The wonderful new things you deserve don’t have space in your life when it’s cluttered by negative, self-sabotaging patterns. Plus, you’ll feel so much better without those unhealthy habits.
Action! The final step of manifestation is the grunt work: taking actionable steps to make these aspirations a reality. All of the Post-Its, mirrors, and detailed goals mean nothing without effort behind them. So refresh that resume, meet with the realtors, and mingle when you’re out and about. Then let your manifestations magnify these actions and allow the universe to work its magic.

Manifestations can be deeply personal, but it never hurts to have some inspiration. After all, we all have something to learn from each other! Below are my top three favorite phrases this year for a general energy shift. These all nest perfectly with more detailed, individual goals.

What is meant for you, will not miss you. I’m about to get super woo-woo here, so bear with me: reframe your perspective to attracting, not chasing. Energy is one of the strongest forces in the universe; when you’re aligned with yours, the things that resonate will be effortlessly drawn to you. And if you have to strong-arm your way into something that doesn’t seem to “want” you, do you really want it? You deserve the ease that comes with mutual resonance.

Consistency reshapes reality

As I mentioned earlier, consistency really is key. If you throw enough time and effort at something, it will happen – for better or worse. So be intentional with the little habits that make up daily life: an hour of scrolling at night may not feel like that much, but would you feel more relaxed and level-headed if it was replaced with reading or meditating? Use those mundane details to sculpt the life you want to live.

Be grateful for every gift the universe brings

Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude. It’s an active practice, not a passive one, that takes little effort and pays off enormously. Good things come to those who appreciate what they already have. And even if we’re not immediately seeing the results we want, the sun shines a little brighter and our lives feel richer when we pay attention to those details. Heck, I even have a gratitude jar – and I feed it every day!

Manifestation, meditation, affirmations, energy – all of these things can feel a little silly and out of touch at times. But why not use all the tools we have to make our experience on this earth as fabulous as possible? After all, life is a gift and is supposed to feel good.
