Hej, predivna! Spremna za malo ljepote i inspiracije?
Hey gorgeous! Ready for a little beauty and inspiration?
Earlier this month, I broke down how to bring that nostalgic “back to school” energy to our professional lives. To further celebrate the new season, I want to turn the focus inward this week. You cannot have a healthy work-life balance without tending to the “life” part, too, so let’s take the opportunity to pause for a moment, do an internal scan, and figure out what we can do to refill our cups this season.
Tip #1: Figure Out A System
We all have that one thing that we struggle with managing: staying on top of emails or messages, or always ordering takeout because cooking is too much at the end of the workday. These loose ends are completely fair, especially in today’s technological age; we have a lot demanding our attention every day. Creating a simple, realistic plan to tackle unsupportive habits can eliminate a surprising amount of mental stress. For example: make a commitment to answer all outstanding messages at the start or end of each day. And if takeout is your kryptonite, look into meal prepping for your busy evenings.
Tip #2: Indulge In A Change
What is something new and fun that you have wanted to do? Look back to New Year’s resolution lists or in your social media “Saved” folders; it does not need to be productive (in fact, I recommend it is the opposite), but it must be something that interests you. Oftentimes, we sacrifice the items on our to-do list that feed our souls but not our practical sides. These “indulgent” goals can come with a price tag of hours that are hard to dedicate. However, that hard-won time is often the most enjoyed, and can add a shot of excitement and a sense of renewal to our routines. Whether incorporating homemade shakshouka into your schedule or repainting the bathroom will brighten up your days, carve out time for this activity and enjoy it to the max.
Tip #3: Prioritize Variety
Similar to the tip above, try to set aside time to incorporate different activities into your typical routine. A wise someone once said “Variety is the spice of life,” and they were not lying! Having something to look forward to is key to work-life balance, and drawing inspiration from the seasons can be a great way to keep your calendar stimulating and well-rounded. Making an event out of getting your first cozy beverage of the season or spending an afternoon at the pumpkin patch with friends can transform weekend routines from automatic habit to refreshing novelty.
Tip #4: Schedule A “Selfish” Night
The busy schedules that come with modern life can be exhausting and strain our ability to enjoy the little things. To shake off the dust and reset, block out an evening (or morning or afternoon, pending your preference) and plan to do whatever you want in that window. It should be a time of complete indulgence: takeout, candles, and a cheesy romcom; an afternoon at that new museum exhibit; a morning bagel and coffee at a cafe you have been eyeing. Set your phone to silent, get comfortable, and soak up every moment of “you” time. You deserve it.
Fall is a time of change, of warmth, of new beginnings. To be completely “woo-woo,” it is when animals begin to slow down and prepare for the cozier, quieter winter months. This season, I hope you will join me in following their example and step back from the chaos of our routines. If we can incorporate even just a little bit of internal focus, that is a win – and will hopefully bring a little more sunshine into the shortening days.

Love, shine, and kisses!
