Hej, predivna! Spremna za malo ljepote i inspiracije?
Hey gorgeous! Ready for a little beauty and inspiration?
Something you may not know about me is that I am a dedicated meal prepper. I love planning healthy, delicious options for myself so I know I have something easy and nourishing to eat when the week gets busy. It is one of the ways I show up for my future self. Plus, I find cooking extremely relaxing; so this is a case of self-care “two birds, one stone”!
Given this dedication to meal prepping, I have seen a social media trend making the rounds for a few months now, quietly but consistently – and that’s when I know it has some weight. The “eat your skincare” philosophy focuses on meals that are rich in ingredients that benefit your skin. As a clean food devotee and a clean beauty lover, this intrigued me on multiple levels!
A quick disclaimer: “eating your skincare” does not mean you need to solely consume farm-to-table produce and pasture-raised meat. Not even slightly. I prefer to view it as a way to guide my eating habits and add a layer of intention in my meal prep, like choosing a sweet potato for extra Vitamin A or trading iceberg lettuce for nutrient-dense kale in a salad. Whether these are frozen or fresh is of little consequence; your body will appreciate the extra love no matter what form they come in.
Below are some of my favorite powerhouse foods and how I like to incorporate them into my routine to boost my glow, energy, and mood through the week!
Garlic
Starting this list off with a bit of an unexpected superfood! Though commonly regarded as a simple seasoning, fresh garlic is packed with health benefits like fiber and vitamins C and B6. It is part of the same family as onions, leeks, and shallots, and has been used in medicine for centuries. Learning the different ways to prepare garlic for cooking – dicing, chopping, and crushing – and when to use them has been a game-changer for me in my recipes. And if you’re really feeling adventurous, try garlic confit; you will not regret it. 😉
Tuna
Rich in vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids, tuna is full of protein, vitamins, and minerals. It can boost bone health and strengthen your immune system, and the healthy fats are great for your skin, hair, and nails. As this fish contains potentially higher mercury content, it is best to limit consuming it to once a week. And if you need some inspiration for incorporating it into your meal rotation, tuna steaks are surprisingly great in burgers, especially with some seasoned carrot ribbons.
Green Tea
I’m a diehard coffee lover, but green tea is my great exception. It is rich in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and simply soothing, especially first thing in the morning. From the preparation ritual to the health benefits, starting your day with a cup of natural, low-caffeine tea is a great way to slow down and nourish yourself.
Final Thoughts
The bottom line? You don’t need an exclusively from-scratch meal plan made up of expensive groceries to eat for your skin (or overall well-being). You just need intention, knowledge, and some great recipes. And of course, no menu is complete without treats. Some fun is important, especially for our souls (my favorite goody is dark chocolate, and not just because it is good for your heart!).
As we always say at Keca’s Usna, beauty is not just on the outside; it’s not limited to a lipstick you wear or a skin cream you apply. It starts and ends inside, and nurturing our inner glow can come in the form of mental health care, affirmations, and nourishing food. Because when we eat to take care of ourselves, we feel better – and that makes us glow more than any moisturizer ever could.
Ljubav, sjaj i poljupci!
Love, shine, and kisses!
